Paul L. Weaver, Ph.D.
direct dial: 651-275-9835 Paul has considerable experience and expertise in complex areas of biotechnology and the life sciences and uses these skills in helping the firm procure intellectual property rights for their clients. Prior to joining Kagan Binder, Paul was a patent agent at the law firm of Merchant & Gould, where he gained substantial experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the biological, chemical, pharmaceutical and medical device fields, including assisting in opinion work and litigation matters. Before working in the intellectual property field, Paul acquired over 10 years of biochemical research experience, obtaining a doctoral degree in molecular genetics and holding a post-doctoral research fellowship in immunology. Before working as a patent agent, Paul was an Immunology post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Minnesota's Medical School and investigated biochemical aspects of T cell responses in mammals. Prior to that, Paul taught and carried out his graduate work at The Ohio State University, focusing on the enzymology of RNA processing in eukaryotic systems. At the beginning of his research career, Paul worked as a visiting scientist in the field of radiation biology at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois. Paul has co-authored a number of research articles that have appeared in internationally recognized journals such as Science, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and the EMBO Journal. Education
