David is one of the managing partners of the firm. David focuses his practice in chemical, pharmaceutical, and agricultural technologies and has extensive experience in many aspects of intellectual property law. Significant experiences include assessing the patentability of inventions, drafting and prosecuting patent applications around the world, defending and attacking patent validity in opposition proceedings, drafting and negotiating technology transfer agreements, conducting intellectual property due diligence investigations in connection with new business opportunities, preparing infringement and validity opinions with a special emphasis on helping clients design around and avoid intellectual property rights of third parties, managing intellectual property litigation, and handling interference disputes before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. These matters have involved a wide range of technologies:

Before co-founding the firm, David was a partner with the law firm of Faegre & Benson, where he was head of the intellectual property chemical practice group. Before joining Faegre & Benson, David was in-house intellectual property counsel for 3M. His responsibilities at 3M included serving as primary contact for a 3M business unit generating over $500 million in annual sales. He also served as primary contact for another 3M business unit that he helped incorporate intellectual property into its strategic business planning as that business grew from a small department to a full-fledged 3M division. David also had responsibility for managing intellectual property litigation in two of 3M's three sectors.
